The weekend of 1&2 October saw the 9th running of the Tri Services Radio Sailing Association IOM class National at the model boat lake in Gosport. The event attracted an 18 boat entry from skippers from all over the UK. All three services were well represented. It was a glorious weekend of weather to sail an event such as this, it was warm, the sky was egg shell blue and gin clear. The wind was from a kind direction and strong enough to enable good racing from the fleet for the whole of the weekend. Racing was tight and competitive at all levels with full use being made of the size of the lake. 24 races in total were sailed with John Cleave, retired Royal Navy, sailing his Obsession, an Australian designed and built boat winning the individual competition by 1 point from serving submariner John Taylor with Army representative Lester Gilbert third. The two main contenders had both sailed consistently well all weekend and the final result came down to last race of the day when John Cleave stayed ahead of John Taylor on the final leg to take the event. The Royal Navy ran off with the team trophy, and the leading person from the RAF was Tony Banfield. The Tri-Services RSA is open to any one who is or has served with the Armed Forces and who has an interest in sailing model racing yachts competitively. The National Championship is an annual event held at Gosport in early October towards the end of the competitive sailing season. If you are interested in joining the Tri Services RSA contact Dave Cox or Chaz Jordon.

Tri-Services AGM Minutes 2011
1st October 2011 @ 10am
14 Members present, No apologies.
Agenda
1. The Commodore began the AGM with an opening statement, thanking all members who turned up for this event.

2. AGM Minutes 2010
All members agreed the previous AGM minutes were accurate and reflected a true account of last years meeting. Proposed by Chaz Jordan, Seconded by Neil Baxter.

3. Treasurer Report
A short report of the Associations financial account was given by Roy Stevens. The Association has the sum of £166.45p currently available within the bank. There are no immediate plans to use this money. All members were satisfied that Roy Stevens report was a true reflection of the Associations Account. Proposed by Lester Gilbert, Seconded by Chaz Jordan.

4. Constitution
The Commodore highlighted the constitution, thereby asking members if we should change the wording in paragraph ……., to read.
‘A representative of Gosport club committee…….’

It was agreed by members for the alteration to take place prior to next years Tri-Services Championship.

5. Mr Chas Jordan was asked by the Commodore if he would join the Associations Committee, this was due to his tireless work advertising the Association to potential new members. Chaz accepted the offer

6. Chaz Jordan questioned if the Association could have a travellers series, where members who raced within the MYA events would gain points for an Association prize. This was explained that a traveller’s series would be deemed to complicate when working out who went to which race and how many points should be awarded.

7. John Taylor introduced the Associations new IOM yacht ‘Sofar’. Plans are now available through the Associations website. Members are encouraged to build there own IOM. This is a simple and inexpensive way to get started within the sport.

8. The Tri-Services Championship 2012 will take place at Gosport MYC. Sat 8th and Sunday 9th September 2012
